1st Anniversary Recap

The day started off with waffles and bacon like most Sundays do at the Sumrall estate (well, waffles at least; not so much bacon).

We thought it would be fun to start the tradition of following the Wedding Anniversary Gifts by Year chart. Year one is paper, so we decided to make each other cards.

After breakfast and card exchange, we headed over to our pool to catch some rays and swim a bit.
Traditionally, you are supposed to save/freeze the top of your wedding cake to eat on your first wedding anniversary for good luck. Everyone we talked to before our wedding said this was a bad idea; that the cake was always nasty a year later. So, we opted out and served the top of our cake at our wedding (not to mention, every layer of our cake was a different flavor, so I wanted every layer served). Not wanting bad luck, Adam stepped up to the plate and decided to make his own rendition of our wedding cake for us to eat on our anniversary.

Adam's cake: funfetti cake with homemade blue and yellow icing to match the original. He thought it would look cooler to crumble the cake up and layer it. Don't judge a book by it's cover; this cake was delicious!

For dinner, Adam made us reservations at Jibarra, a very modern/eclectic Mexican restaurant in downtown Raleigh. It was very swanky and cool; definitely not your average Mexican restaurant by any means. We both really enjoyed it.

Our 1st Anniversary was definitely one for the books! The satisfying part is knowing that each anniversary will only be better than the last. Next year: COTTON!
